Don't know anything about the age of this column of post office boxes, all I really know is that I loved it and had to have it! I love the doors and they seem to be a bit different from the many doors I see being offered for sale online. I love postal history! Does anyone know how old these are or anything about the value of the unit intact? I have not cleaned it up yet and 2 of the doors are off, but I wouldn't think it would be a big deal to attach them. Thanks for looking!

You should definitely try to keep the unit intact. For years, people have been taking off the doors and making wooden boxes for them to be used as piggy banks. But then the history and character is destroyed.

What I do, assuming the boxes are deep enough, is keep them together and use them as wine racks. Gives new meaning to the term "mail order wine"

If you want to learn about collecting postal boxes, you've got to get the bible - Jane's book. List every box type known, with dates, makers variations etc.

Portrero-I know! The only ones I could find when researching were the bank ones. There's no way I'm taking mine apart! Do you think I should re-attach the 2 doors that are off, though? Thank you so much for the information on the book, I'll look into it. I have seen the postal antiques page...what wonderful eye candy!! :)

Looks a bit like the 1896 Dial Pointers. Can't be sure without closer inspection though. thatd be my guess. Awesome find!
