Thank you Newtimes, Geo and BelleEpoque for your so prompt loving!
Belle, special thank for your comment!

Think all of these long pins from 1890 to 1910 came by pair, as hats were too voluminous to be secure with only one...
They were so long that women sometimes used them as weapons! A law was voted to enjoin wearer to put an end to their pins in order not to hurt other people!

      These are all wonderful Kyratango!
The engraving on the horn insects is so good and how whimsical to have a cicada and a damsel fly on your hat! Humans have also enjoyed breaking away from the serious.
Are Mississippi pearls just a freshwater seed pearl?
      Great group thanks!

Hi Racer! Thanks for your interest and so kind comment!

The Mississippi pearl: This pearl grows inside the American pearly freshwater mussel, which can be found in the upper part of the Mississippi and its tributaries (Tennessee, Cumber- land, etc.). The M. pearl is rarely round, mostly baroque, wing-like and resembles a dog's tooth, a bird's wing or an animal head or body. Colours: white, pink, purple, rose-coloured, bronze, blue-violet

      They are natural pearls,

BEAUTIFUL hatpins! The little bee too in your other post. The mussel hatpins are stunning. And horn insects - so hard for hatpin collectors to come by. Am not allowed to offer to buy on this site but do please approach me if you should ever decide to sell one day. I would pay top prices for these - theyre wonderful.
Thanks for sharing - lovely collection. Have so enjoyed seeing it!
