I believe this is a 1940's jade ring from China but I am not sure. Could also be from India? It's adjustable marked silver and has a beautiful bezel and shank. As you can see from pic 1 & 2 some of the twist wire and filigree are missing. The opaque stone is 16x11 mm. It didn't come in this brocade box - I included pic 3 for a basic front view.

Any help is appreciated! So many beautiful large stone rings have been posted recently.

It is very very nice Valentino97! Thankyou for posting it! The stone looks like a flower! Are there any marks?

Hi Elisabeth - It sorta looks like a sunflower doesn't it? The only mark is SILVER which peaks out in picture 1. I knew you would enjoy it!

Thank you Ken for your love.

Hi! I do. Yes it looks a bit like a sunflower but I first thought of a rose, the way they pictured them wayback in churchpaintings, don't know what to call them. It great looking anyway!

Hmm....Elisabeth - I don't know since I haven't seen this shape in church paintings. No churches here old enough though either.

Just a thought Val...While it probably is Asian in origin the band has a bit of a Celtic/ Nordic look to the design.with the intertwined circles, braids and chain mail pattern around the stone. I bet the stone is meant to look like a Lotus flower but that's says Chinese as well as the box. Just my observation and quite pretty. -Mike-

Oh, this is a beautiful one! I can never wear adjustable rings though. It always seems like a good idea and then they pinch the back of my finger :)

    And Ted!

Mike It does look Nordic. That's an idea. I will look in that direction - most my research books are Asian or ethnic focus. I just put in the box for a front shot - didn't come w/it. The round circles I now realize was "stolen" by a company I worked for back in the 90's for their new logo - but I'm sure it was used many times over the years. Thank you!

Valentino97 my friend! I've searched the net and have seen several photos of similar rings and they all said antique chinese! You were right all the time ofcourse even when that rose-like stone set me off to Europe :-). Your ring is by far the most beautiful of all those rings that I've seen.

Elisabeth - thank you! If you can email them or if not then the addresses. I looked too the day I posted this but didn't find anything.

Thank you CW friends for your love: manikin, antiquerose, wksgibson, Gudrun, nitty-gritty, Ted, gargoyle & Newtimes!

Val, the circle motifs with a square inside is representation of chinese money coins!
They are auspicious to bring fortune and good luck.
Definitely chinese, made for export, the stone seems to be a pale green jadeite.
Nice big ring! May it be auspicious for you too :-)

Thank you kyratango! I thought so - but didn't recognize the circle w/square motif. I love this ring and love that pale green color. Tried to buy some beads of that color when I was in China but I couldn't afford. I love all green - but this shade appeals to me.

I'm playing catch-up. Have been on vacation - Elisabeth - thank you for that Rubylane ring which has a similar rope technique on setting. You do great research!

@kyratango, is this the style known as intaglio?
  21. kyratango kyratango, 2 years ago
Katherine, sorry for the late answer...
It is a carving! Intaglio is carved "en creux" aka below the surface :-)
