All I know about this cabinet card is what it shows and that it is from Milford, NH. It appears to be a horse drawn wagon transporting a tombstone for a man who died in 1893. I find the granite advertising on the back of the wagon interesting. There also seems to be some patriotic event occurring as there are numerous American flags strung in front of the homes and there is a portrait of George Washington on the house on the right.
The stone on that truck looks like a memorial.
Milford was a granite town.

Phil, I love any old photos where the homes are decorated to the 9's no matternwhat the event. I'm just wondering what the even here is since the memorial has nothing to do with anyone important. The only thing I can think of is possibly the 400th anniversary of Columbus' landing since its from 1893 or some anniversary related to George Washington because of the framed print on the home.
Vetraio50, I think the name is Joseph W Smith and according to the stone he died in 1893.
There was a grand parade in Milford on Nov, 15 1894.
Brookline to Milford Line.
But the weather looks too good for November.
"The state agreed in February and work began later in the year. The formal opening was celebrated November 15, 1894. The town shut down all work so all could enjoy the parade, complete with music by the local Cornet Band, a cannon, and a reception for 400 people at the town house. The new line was known as the Brookline & Milford Railroad or the Fitchburg Line.. "

Maybe it was the "Celebration of the One Hundredth Anniversary of the Incorporation of Milford, New Hampshire, June 26, 1894"?
The clothes look right.
Possibly vetraio50. Maybe the date in the memorial is not the date of the parade and is just being used as an example of the company's work.

I really think it's advertising. Maybe getting the float ready for a parade. Atmosphere seems festive with the folk in the back. Plus wouldn't you be upset if your memorial/funeral was covered in advertising?
Thanks AmberRose, I think it has something to do with what vetraio50 suggested but it seems like more of a parade for something to do with George Washington and America than just the town.
