    Really old oil painting on canvas. Prob. 1840-80 based on back stamp on canvas: "Prepared by Winsor & Newton, 38 Rathbone Place, London, W"
    Someone handwrote on the frame: "Der Went Water". It is signed but I can't read it. Your comments are welcome.

      There are two Derwent Rivers.

      One in Cumbria, England and the other in Australia ..... My area.
      This might be either.

      As someone just said on another post, vertraio, you DO know everything. :-)

      Could it possibly be just as handwritten on the frame:

      Derwentwater (or Derwent Water), one of the principal bodies of water in the Lake District National Park in north west England. It lies wholly within the Borough of Allerdale, in the county of Cumbria. It was the subject of many English artists.
