I found these small 1/2" inch Coins/tokens that were made into cufflinks I think. There is a young Indian Head depicted on one side of both with 1917 and on the other side is the Crest of the Province of Alberta with the words ALBERTA GOLD. I have not tested the coins but they definitely look like gold and have reeded edges like Gold coins would have. They are attached together by a 6-link chain. My question is: were there ever any coins minted in 1917 in Gold to commemorate a special event in Alberta? Alberta joined the Canadian Confederation in 1871 so it can't be to commemorate that event. No Gold coins were minted by the Canadian or British mint in 1917 for Alberta. A strange little item indeed, and if anyone can enlighten-me, I would appreciate your input. RER(BOB)
