My sister and I found this perfect set of Moderntone Platonite, Hazel Atlas in a Perry, MO antique store last month. Perfect - never used included:
28 items set of 4: 6.75" dinner plates, cups & saucers, sherbert, bowls, bowls w/handles, tumblers.
"In 1936, Hazel-Atlas introduced a type of glass called Platonite, which looks very much like ordinary milk glass but has a more “translucent” or “almost-see-through” quality. Platonite ware was surface-colored by a “fired-on” process, and many shades of color are seen in this type of ware, including yellow, pink, pastel green, light and dark blue, aquamarine, chartreuse, salmon, rust, orange, red, brown, beige and others." http://www.tias.com/glass/depression-glass/hazel-atlas/page/2/
Displayed in her beautiful cabinet next to our Grandmother's flower garden quilt. AND, Kitty could not resist a chance to get in the photo.
How I love this set! Fantastic!
Adorable kitty too ;)
Love the colour nice to have the set..love the quilt too...:-)
I am very envious...this is just fantastic!
IT's beautiful... I love the color.
Thank you Virginia for your nice comment on my sister's Hazel-Atlas score and noticing how cute Kitty is. This was the guest room where I slept and Kitty for some reason stayed w/me the entire weekend.
Thank you inky - isn't this set a gorgeous colour! The quilt was made in the early 70's by my Grandmother with old feed sack and other cotton prints.
Thank you racer4four for your nice comments - I'm sad I don't have this either - but at least it is in the family.
Thank you friends: Agh - first love!, Virginia, Phil, Kevin, mike, inky, Kerry, racer and Nadia!
Even Kitty admire it ;-)
Nice in all point Val!
Val, love the kitty shot particularly. I run into a cup or a plate of various colors now and again. Shall I start picking them up for you?
Always the kitties are looking for the real love valentino97, he love you and care of you, belive me! ;)
Very nice Valentino97!
Very pretty. Look how nice this set would be with the Wedgewood stove on here. Crazy that they would both show up next to each other.
Thank you Kyra - yes Kitty admired it. We think because she doesn't usually go in that room and associated w/my visit when she was allowed and stayed the entire time with me!
Virginia - yes cats are so amazing! Kitty and I hit it off right away. It was fun being her favorite human for the weekend I was visiting.
Thank you Elisabeth - sorry to hear about your neighbor. I owe you a nice long letter.
Shareurpassion - thank you for your comments. I didn't see the stove but will look for it.
beautiful!!
Amber - no this is my sisters and she is planning to give it to one of her kids for Christmas. She isn't a collecting nut like we are but I told her less than $3 a piece for a perfect set was such a great deal. I didn't buy it because I would have had to pay to ship it home! And, also my taste is earth tones. AND....I have a 50's set about 60 miles away all paid for that I have to pick up....
NOW....since you offered....I am looking for more large 9"? square plates from the 1940's Blair "gay plaid" pattern. (posted awhile ago) I have everything else but all my dinner plates are chipped. Don't spend too much - because I am Miss Cheapo. And thanks by the way.
Thank you Sean for your comment!
Thanks Belltown for your love!
Thank you Kevin!
It's newly listed under Unsolved Mysteries. Take a peek...
share - what an amazing stove! Thank you - it is so beautiful. Someone loved this and took good care of it.
Yes it is and I'm glad you got to see it. Now I also had a Wedgewood, white with black legs, the light came up from the back and it was beautiful also. I sold it a few years ago. I didn't see where you found the year of these beautiful plates but your header starts at the 36's, I'm thinking that your plates are older because of the color. Of course I could be completely wrong on that, but my stove was from the 30's and the blue Wedgewood has got to be older than that. Anyway, I'm just comparing it with color. Also, have you checked with replacements.com?
Hi share - 1936 came from a Hazel Atlas research book. I thought a bit earlier too - maybe 1932? This is a lovely set that was never used. I know these can get scratched. I love those old stoves! This one is really beautiful.
I don't have a home, only rented - but 2 of my places had the most amazing huge working 40's or 50's stoves w/ pull out griddle, clocks, working lights and shelves that moved up or down to work with.
Gay plaid got it! No worries about cost...I am a super cheapy!
Thank you Amber! I found my Gay Plaid set in 3 different states. All I need is to replace my plates because the other pieces are perfect.
Thank you for the loves: Moonhill, Lee, and hickadilly1
