Pictures don't quite show how amazing this 2.75"x1.75" clip is.
I think this is from the 20's or 30's based on the hardware of clip. They must be wood beads, painted then fired w/6 vibrant colors. I usually wear it around Christmas. For something so old it's amazing the quality that went into making this simple costume piece. Paint has never chipped away.
It always gets comments but isn't bakelite because no fading in the 25 years I've had it.
Would love to hear if anyone knows more about this.
Gum balls!
Ken - I've seen these but usually smaller. This one is really neat and thank you for loving it!
Thank you Sean, AGH and Manikin!
And XOXO Lee!
Thank you Kevin!
Delicious... I love it.
Thank you Nadia!
Want this one too....gorgeous!
Val that is too funny! We've all had something similar. Or autocorrected! That makes life interesting too.
On vacation in Florida. Snuck off to thrift and found a green plastic/Bakelite (?????) bangle. Going to have to figure out how to post and would value your opinion. Already wear it everyday!
Love the colors!
Thank you racer! It is a very nice clip. I love it and thank you that you also enjoy.
Thanks Virginia - colors are really pretty aren't they!
Surely these are the balloons from Doulton's famous Balloon seller?

Anne - what an interesting comparison! Yes, the Royal Doulton is ceramic and these are wood painted. I think my clip is older. Thanks for your input and links.
How pretty, love the colors! :)
Thank you Katherine for your nice comment. I really love this clip! Recently I searched for more of these online. They've last well - but also saw a few badly grazed and chipped. My guess from extreme heat, sitting "out" or played with by the grandkids....
My first thought was "GUMBALLS" also! Love it!
Hi there My Favorite Treasures! Ouch on the gumball thought....:)
Gum balls have a sugar coating, these wonderful wooden beads are so bright and vibrant! ( if we are talking candy here... jawbreakers! They remind me of the brightly colored jawbreakers we ate as kids, ha!) I love this brooch Mary, glad it came back to the top!
Color,, Colure ! nice
Thank you Eileen - it's very nice old clip. I also have a red one that is just as gorgeous. The glazing technique was very good.
Vynil - thank you - I loves these colors.
Thanks to CW friends for loves.
