I know it's a lighter! Very heavy, could be brass. 4 1/2" x 2 1/4. Bamboo engraving. No markings indicating any info. Does anyone have a clue to solve this mystery?

lovely looking item, i would suggest that it is brass and looks to me like a piece of trench art, probably made from some kind of artillary shell

Wow. I'm thrilled to get a response. Haven't a clue about trench art. Will have to do some research. Thanks for giving me a place to start. I'm curious about it's value too.

Hi the lighter is WWII (trench Art) and is made of aluminium. They were normally made by machine engineers out of spare and scrap parts. The Bamboo engraving will more lightly have been done by a local street artist. Soldiers would often get their own lighters engraved with personal messages or images. Different designs can be seen from different countries but this looks very much like engraving done in Japan.
