PG 6893 is one of the oldest Phänomen Genres that Loetz produced (going back as early as 1898), and it is also the most common. It is also found in a variety of ground colors. The ground color of this one is opal. The shape is shown in Lötz Böhmisches Glas, 1880-1940, Band 2 - Katalog der Musterschnitte (see last photo scan). Series I-7574 was reprised in Series II as PN II-644 (ca. 1900). Note - although the line drawing indicates a flat ground rim (abgeschliffen) - there are many examples of this shape as shown here - with a fire polished rim (aufgetrieben) and a ground and polished pontil. It was made in a ten part ribbed mold. As an added bonus, this vase is properly signed with the engraved "Loetz Austria" signature.

For more beautiful and colorful examples of PG 6893, visit the decor page on the excellent Loetz.com website (link below). Be sure to also check out the rest of the site - new content is being added regularly.

I absolutely know nothing of glass. I could look at this all day, the colour and design is amazing. I don't think you need to be a expect to know this a special piece. Thanks for sharing.
