    Pink vase, or small decanter?
Quite heavy, 8"high by about 5" at its widest.
It looks like it maybe hand blown, very slightly unsymmetrical.
It has a fair amount of wear on the bottom, a small broken pontil mark in the middle & a fine 'sandpaper' feel about 1-2cm deep, the rest is smooth and shiny.
I can't even guess at how old it is, though the pink makes it look kind of mid cent. But i don't know.
    Any help appreciated, as usual.

    Thank you.

Thanks Ken. I like it too :) i think its pick glass with fine wispy white additions. Unusual i thought with the wide bit at the bottom.

Sweetheart of a vase. Lovely shape and colour but I have no idea where it's from sorry Fran!

Thanks karen. I'm hoping its distinctive shape might help :)

Sorry can't help..it really is one of those you need to have in your hands to see and feel..much age wear on the base?... Lovely colour and a great shape....your photos are really good too!....:-)

Hi Inky, it does have age wear on the base, a fair bit, unlike my previous posting where i can't see any.

      Well that's a good sign...I don't know but! it doesn't feel Murano to me...but! I know nooothing!...:-))

Hi Inky, Murano was a stab in the dark, the base doesn't look typical of Murano that i know of, but i know they make decanters. Its heavy for its size (lead crystal maybe?) and has a kind of 'folded over' lip like I've seen on drinking glasses & decanters, which makes me wonder. Funny actually, this and the little jug before it came from the same shop. They weren't expensive but this was twice the price of the jug, I'd have priced them the other way around, even not knowing if the jug was old or new i thought it was pretty & unusual.

      its absolutely beautiful......

Thank you Anne :) i do love it but was only later i started to wonder if it maybe a decanter, i don't drink so try not to get decanters, they're a reminder of what i can't do anymore :(

      Me thinks vase not decanter....:-)

:) i hope so. I never thanked you for the compliment on my photos...you can't see the mess just off camera ;)

I would say its a vase because there is no handle its nice but not murano
    13. Vintagefran Vintagefran, 5 years ago
Thanks nittygritty, I'll remove the Murano comment, it was always very dubious. But as for no handle, i have, what I've seen described as a Murano decanter, nothing like this btw, but no handles, when i got it i thought it was a vase.

Another reason i suspected it maybe a decanter, the other one has a similar folded lip at the top, a bit like on this, which none of my vases have. Also its shape would hold a lot of liquid & be very stable with its wide rimmed foot...only observations, it doesn't matter too much if its a decanter or not but be nice to know :)

Is the inside of the neck were the stopper would have been inserted smooth like the outside or a little rough/matt?...:-)
    16. Vintagefran Vintagefran, 5 years ago
Hi inky, interesting you should ask that, I've just been examining it. Its slightly rough for about 1-2cm in then goes smooth.
Here's the vase/decanter which made me suspect this one..i re added it, thought it might help clear up a few things. Like..do all decanters have lids? :-S

Inky, do you think the roughness suggests it might have once had a lid? I bet if it did it was pint like its foot & look fabulous! :)
    18. inky inky, 5 years ago
If it is a little rough on the inside about the length of what the stopper may have been... suggests it may have been a decanter, it was made like this so the stopper would have had a tighter grip enabling it to have air tight seal, a good way to indicate if a stopper is original to the bottle, as a lot sold aren't...a smooth inside and the stopper would have moved around not sealing it!...hope of some help...:-)

Thanks inky. It puts a whole different slant to it imagining it with a stopper. I'm sure many aren't original to the bottles, i see boxes of stoppers at boot sales. I may just keep a look out for a pink one :)

I would say Vase...............unsure of maker??
    21. Vintagefran Vintagefran, 5 years ago
Thanks AR, its looking like the Murano one i thought was a decanter is a vase too :)

Hi all, I'm still not convinced this isn't a decanter, it 'feels' like it is.
Here's one i found an image of, not the same, but it does show no handles or flat top like here.

2 pink vanity bottles/decanters. Ones a very odd shape indeed.
