Enjoyed Jewels post of sea glass. I have bowls & tins around my apt. filled w/found objects (glass, metal, bones, shells, fossils, etc. stuff).

My friend Claudia saw this mint green glass bottle neck in one of the bowls and decided to use it for her GIA project "wax carving, ring design". I think the best part of this gift was picking it up at the jewelry shop in Los Angeles downtown jewelry district. The shop was in an old bldg., 2nd floor, not glitzy. When we arrived the craftsmen all came out to meet me and comment on how difficult it was to "cage" the glass in sterling. They weren't used to working in anything but silver and gold. But they said they enjoyed the challenge (mainly not to break the glass).

I love this ring! When I go to art openings it is the perfect one of a kind jewel. Claudia returned to Europe and still makes beautiful jewelry.

Thanks Phil - I'm glad I got to share this gift. It is really wonderful mainly because someone MADE it for me. I love hand made presents.

This is very unique! I have never seen one like this, using the bottleneck--very nice and a lovely story to go with it. Such a journey that glass had--trash to treasure =)

Thanks Jewels - I knew you would like this. Isn't this color great? Maybe an old beer bottle. I found this on beach here in CA somewhere. I can't remember where exactly. Trash to treasure!

That color is wonderful! One of my favs. I like the soft green better than the darker green from Heineken beer bottles and such, but I saved that dark green and a bunch of brown and my daughter glued it to a canvas in the shape of a tree. Such a great ring you have there with such memories and I bet it always reminds you of the ocean as well. Thanks for sharing!

I love all colors. I never find red. Thanks for loving the sea foam green? Let's call it that!

I also have a very interesting dark green glass (maybe Heineken) that I made into a ring but need to retake the pictures. It is so gorgeous but my pix are crappy.

Would love to see it! There is black glass as well, difficult to distinguish from black rocks. I only ever found one piece of red, but it is a perfectly sanded gorgeous piece. I couldn't believe it when I found it. I want to have that made into something. I also found a perfect "sunrise shell" one day--they are only found in Hawaii and rare to find. It's a treasure and I want to make it into a pendant.

Jewels I would love to see your red and sunrise shell. You can email those to me at mjldesigner@hotmail.com I have some really interesting shells, sea critters and glass I'd like you to see that I plan to make into jewelry. Not sure if CW would appreciate them since they are more in the category of upcycled.

Hi val, I just added the pic to my sea glass post

Yes - just saw it! I think the red could be captured nicely in a thin silver stamped, etched art-clay bead cap. I've tried to drill shells - not easy (they are still perfect when we find them for a reason.) Tough! Very nice sunshine shell. You could use the press and clamp metal bales. (Fire Mountain)
