This is an old cup I got today and it has a lovely aged look. Different from the cheap copper art things. It is heavy and looks to be brass or bronze. The lip is tapered so i think it is for drinking out of. And it does seem to have a broad arrow mark or that may be my wishful thinking. Can anyone recognise it as eastern or maybe Australian colonial?

Has the Powerhouse Museum got anything similar in it's online inventory?
I'm not sure but assume the Australian Museum in Canberra would also have an online catalogue to check. Certainly looks old and that looks like a British arrow stamp.
      It's cool!

Thanks racerfour, It has a really nice patina. It's one of those things that are hard to date. It could just be old but from India or the middle east and the mark is just coincidental defects. If I can find out if the shape stylistic of a certain country then I'd have a clue.

I found one nearly the same on the web. It's from India for drinking water. They came in a range of sizes. This is the smallest. Most likely dates from mid 1800s to early 1900s. That mark is just an imperfection.

I'm not sure - but I think it is more bronze.
I thought it looked liked the smallest one of these pots in this picture:

On second thoughts mine looks more bronze than these. Could be just a variation.

Could be due to cleaning , I wouldnt clean yours , maybe just a gentle dust til you know for sure , people like the patina on bronze but they like brass polished and shiny!!
      Great link !!
