Hello, I recently picked this trunk up off of Craigslist with the intent to restore and repurpose it. I would love to find out a little more history about it. I can tell you that it was covered in a black fabric (see 4th image) and has a humpback top to it. It definitely has a ton of water damage to it based on the shape of the wood which is why I'm going to repurpose it, but I'd love to know if the picture on the inside lid is something that is common or might tell me more about it. I'm happy to answer any questions that might unlock the mystery or help me narrow it down. As far as I can tell I'm guessing this is pre-1929 based on the shipping label as that's when Adams Express Company stopped actually shipping items for anyone. Aside from that, I'm just looking for clues as to how old it might actually be. Thanks!
A lovely late 1880's to 90's dome top trunk. Nice finger lift over the lock and the lock itself would have been in the "East Lake" style -- too bad half is missing as it was a nice one. The picture on the interior lid is called a lithograph and most all trunks had them with all types of pictures featured. Nice trunk with solid corner and end clamps and nice wide banding for a great look. This would have been a better quality trunk in its day. With no makers label it is too hard to know what company made it as many made this style and type and used common shared parts. It will look great refinished.
