Today in the UK was Remembrance Sunday. A 100 years ago we were at war, it was war that was supposed to end all wars.
These ceramic poppies at the Tower of London represent each person within the British and Commonwealth Countries who died in this terrible War.

Some of my family was over there this fall & were thoroughly impressed with the magnitude of the display!
Unfortunately, I haven't seen it, my daughter went yesterday, she said it was very moving.
My grandfather fought in the Eccles pals. Luckily he did survived, but suffered from being gassed and shrapnel wounds.
The government at the time thought it would be a good idea to get people (friends) from the same Villages, Town, and Cities, to go into the same Regiments. Hench Pals Regiments.
These Regiments were decimated, therefore many Villages and Town lost a lot of their men folk.
In the Second World War, this type of enlisting didn't happen.

I had a cousin that was gassed, he survived the war, but died some years later from the damage done to his lungs.
War can be very hard on those left to mourn the loss.
I can't remember my Grandad very well, but my mum was saying he was never very well and would only eat Jam Butties, (Jam sandwiches).

Thanks so much for posting this. I was listening to a radio broadcast about this here in the US, and I must say this picture overwhelms any sense of it I had in my mind.

Today was Amistice day, the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month. We stand in silence for one minute for memory of the people who lost their life's and for them who fought. This was a emotional year because of the start of the First World War.
The last ceramic poppy was put in by a 13 year old Army Cadet.
Here in Canada it's Remembrance Day, & we follow the same traditions as to time & date.
We went to a local service, there was only three WWII veterans able to attend.
It was a full house though, which was nice to see.
