I must admit I have a soft spot for bangles. This is my second "cinnabar" bangle. It is a bit different than the first one I found: the carving is against a black background and not as fine, and the bangle itself feels heavier. Of course it is bigger, so it is expected to be heavier but it seems not proportional to its size.

I am not sure what it really is made of. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for looking:)

Happy New Year to you too, valentino97!
Thanks so much for your comment and your link. What a story! I never took the time to really read about it. All I knew was that the pieces were carved and made of many, many layers of lacquer. Now that I know the history, I am glad, too, that modern cinnabar bangles are not real!
I went to an auction the other day and they had a covered cinnabar vase. The auctioneer called it "terra cotta". It was beautiful and went for cheep. No wonder - it was misidentified. I didn't bit on it because I don't collect it:) I wonder if it was old.
I would love to see your pieces. Please do post them!
