Great uncle Bert Wilson and Marie Harding are a fashionable tourist couple at the Pike in front of the bath house in Long Beach. They look serious or annoyed which is a mystery to me since I know they loved to travel. A few years ago going thru my mom's pictures I saw and recognized where they are - just 500 yards or so from where I live! I didn't realize they married here. What's up w/my Midwest mom who doesn't connect the fact her kid has lived in LB, CA for 15 years and her/my favorite uncle married here? None of my other older relatives are alive...oh well, just watch the movie Nebraska for more insight to my mom. Love her so much by the way but....
Bert and Marie traveled from Iowa to California and got married according to the notice card Feb. 12, 1927. MAYBE...this postcard beach scene is one they purchased? And - there they are in 1976.
My uncle Bert told me his goal in life was to visit all 50 states. He made it to Alaska, and I haven't. I don't know the exact amount he accomplished - some were on a train in the 1930's!!! I jumped on a train when I was 16 thinking about him and rode it 10 miles. It's harder to jump off a train than on by the way.
So far - 35 states. It's a gorgeous country, so much to enjoy. Thank you Bertram Wilson for telling me stories and encouraging me to travel.
