Alessi makes whimsical household wares in Italy. This Anna G. corkscrew goes for about $70 on the website but I found her at the Goodwill store in the kitchen utensil bin in the Fillmore District of San Francisco. It was like finding Cinderella. She's in perfect condition except she had a wine cork stuck on the drill, which a friend promptly extracted.
Anna G. wears a cheerful sunny yellow dress and the bottom hem looks like a flower shape. When you raise her arms her neck contracts to her shoulders. When you lower her arms her neck stretches up. She also has a face on either side, no back of the head.
The materials are actually good quality and feel substantial in my hand, with some weight. I imagine she costs much more than the bottles of wine she opens. Made of hermoplastic resin, yellow and chrome-plated zamak.
