Can anyone tell what this is used for? It is a 1 inch clear glass 18 X 12 inches. With scored lines 1/2 inch apart across the face of the glass. It is in a wooden box with felt under the glass with a wooden top. Came from a tool auction, was said to be some precision tool. It also has printed on the end of glass - Accuracy .0005. Very curious as to what this was used for. Thanks for any assistance.

I'm wondering if it wasn't from a tool makers workshop. I remember my partners work had a lab for testing flatness and tolerances of precision dies etc and they had flat plates and light beams to do it. I don't actually recall anything like this though.
