Spring is here in Spain, the Almond trees are the first trees I have that come into blossom. This year there are mega amount of blossom hopefully come August there should be mega amounts of Almonds. Luckily I have no problem with Almond blossom, when the Olives come into blossom that's a different story.
I love spring, watching nature come back to life, it gives me a feel good factor.
    Many thanks for looking

You wouldn't think so at the moment Manikin, it's freezing. The rest of Spain is covered in snow or flooded, so we are lucky.

It's the only part of Spain without snow. The mountains surrounding are full of snow, if it wasn't for the wind I'd be out in the Rays.

The ruin is a on going project, we have built up part of the wall, we have also built a dry stone wall around the ruin, we really need some nice blarmy days. I more or less know what I want, but we shall see, It's all in my head, but I have a habit of changing my mind, lol. I bought some terrocter tiles 400 of them for 50 euros. I will certainly post photos when the proper work commences.

Nice pictures!! In the U.S. They passed a law that the almonds grown here must be pasteurized before selling. This applies to large scale almond growers. But they can be imported from other countries still raw. A loophole of sorts. I know this as we sell Spanish almonds in the store I work at and they are very good kind of sweet.

Interesting, how do you pasteurised Almonds? So if their grown in the states you have to pasteurised, if their from another country, they are unpasteurised, it beggars believe, where is the logic. I just eat mine from the tree, there delicious. When I was a kid we used to have unpasteurised milk in the milk bottles, it was the best milk ever, and I'm still alive to tell the tale.

Most almonds and hazelnuts in the USA are now irradiated. Irradiation is the use of radiation to help preserve foods and kill off bacteria. This has been standard practice since 2007 when the FDA decided that all raw almonds grown in the USA must be pasteurized before sale.

The reasoning behind this decision was 2 outbreaks of salmonella that were traced back to almonds (2001 and 2004). The outbreaks were very mild and the almonds turned out to be grown by conventional farmers, not organic farmers.

But nonetheless all almonds were to be irradiated rather than practices change to prevent the repeat of a problem. The U.S. has strange laws!!

Many farmers tried to fight this and lost they are probably still trying to fight this. Pasturizing destroys the good enzymes and many raw foodies only buy the Spanish grown ones for that reason.

It's a shame that governments do these things, I think food that hasn't been tampered with is better. I can always tell when things are treated or have had additives added, my body strongly reacts.
    16. glasslove glasslove, 9 years ago
Yes I agree the U.S. is famous for tampering with our food most of the corn and the soy here is genetically modified and they are in many things that's why organic foods are growing in popularity here because organic = non gmo.

I can only eat the Gluten free bread, cakes etc. I've tried many times to use normal bread, the next day I'm really sick. I think we should go back to non gmo foods, I'm sure it causes a lot of health problems.

Gluten free foods have come a long way too and many of the prepared desserts and mixes are quite good. And many wheat intolerant people have more options for flours and grains to make their own foods.
    19. Peasejean55 Peasejean55, 9 years ago
Yes, I have to agree that Gluten free foods have come a long way, when I first tried the bread many years ago it was like eating cardboard. I did have a celiac test, I had antibodies, therefore It wasn't a Gluten problem.

Many people like you choose to eat this way because it just makes them feel better and they are listening to their bodies.
