We acquired this old tool and are not sure what it is. There were a couple others on Ebay that looked similar, but they were more like a rasp; one was used for horse hooves.

Others have said it may be an old barrel making tool or an auto body repair tool.

It measures 18" x 1-1/4" and has about 52 blade inserts with what appears to be leather spacers.

Any information you could offer would be appreciated. Please email me at denisejackson52@aol.com

    Thanks very much!!

Maybe for buffing real fine leather? Just a guess.

Oh, leather spacers! Huum! Give me more time to think (maybe a year).

We have a tool that looks something like it and we don't know what it is, blade is 3 1/2 by 11 has handle on both ends, one end is stright with the blade and one end is crosswise on the blade. we want to show a picture of it and write a note but i have not learned how to do that yet. I tried to put my husbands picture on and it would not upload, still trying. Thank you, Art40

Looks like an old plaster rasp. Not sheetrock, back when we used real plaster and wood lathe to finish walls.

I'm pretty sure its an octagonal rasping tool like the round ones used for making the slot in rifle stocks for gunsmithing.

Auto body smoothing rasp from back when they used lead to fill in small irregularities left over from hammering out dents. (pre-Bondo, pre- just replace the whole fender)
