    L.Vitting Feb.26 1867
    Z. Walsh May 4 1869
    Andy Adams Nov.8 1870
(A Special thanks to Jim Cardoza, HMS Trunks for the patent.information)
This trunk was given to me by a fellow trunker " Thunder" thanks Elise.
80 percent of the original leather is present.I have started refinishing the metal as is apparent by the white chemical paint remover residue in the photos. The interior cover has some older neat winter themed Lithographs of what appears to be 2 classic Germanic pictures of Santa Clause.1 picture of a Man with rifle playing with gently with his mate and two children below. My somewhat educated guess would be circa. 1875 to 1880s give or take. I will refinish the metal in black satin paint. recover the interior , built a new tray ,protect and restore the lithographs.
The leather I will attempt to replace the damaged parts, and re- condition it.
New leather straps may be in order as well .I Will post pics when completed.

Drill, I love this one!! The double lock is really awesome. I really love the lithographs inside. They're really unique looking. I've always been really partial to the leather covered trunks. I can't wait to see this when you've finished adding you magic touch. Nice one!!

Thanks for the kind words guys,Yeah Scott, love the old interior pictures too they were cutouts and face applied to the paper.Making them easy to save for a new interior.Jon B, I will try not to disappoint,it will be awhile though,as the exterior is only half done. The condition starting off was far from great. It is turning into one of my favorites, and looks like no other.

Drill, very nice trunk and great that it has the super lock and lid compartment. I would say around 1875 is right especially since it has the leather tie down straps rather than metal latches. Those slat bumper clamps are one of the earliest styles also, patented in 1871. I'm sure this will be a beauty when finished! By the way, you can remake the missing pocket in the lid too, which isn't too hard.

Thanks Marvin, Yeah I actually have an extra pocket from another trunk that I had used for parts as it was destroyed, Hoping I can fix it up just right.

I've been thinking about a little competition for a while and I think in light of all that's been going on this would be a good time. I don't want to give any details yet to keep it fair . And I do want EVERYONE to feel comfortable about joining in. I will post details and get it started tomorrow if no problems come up .There will be "A Major Award"

Drill it is a pleasure seeing you like trunks as much as I do, and it gives me great pleasure seeing your work on my old trunks, yah! If my back wasn't so bad I would still be wrestling with them, glad you are doing it, you are my first choice , pleasure meeting another like trunker that sees eye to eye
