Hello CW friends! I´ve seen beaded bags and purses here on CW that I love. So I have kept my eyes open and the other day I managed to find this purse or bag and won the internet auction. I bought it for 19 USD (17 EUR).

The size is 18 cm (7 inch) and 12 cm (4,9 inches).
My purse shows signs of age and at the top, the Purple lining, has faded a little but otherwise it is in good condition. No beads are missing from what I can see. I´m not 100 % sure but I think the thread and lining is linnen. The beads are so very small and made of glass.

Drawstring, I think. I have also seen them called flapper or even mourning bags.

I think this is a crocheted & beaded 1920's bag but I'm not 100% sure because similar motifs were made in America early 19th century. Will try to find a little more info. I'm leaning 1920's based on drawstring cord. Very pretty!

In 18th and 19th century England this bag would have been called a reticle but now the word is largely forgotten. That said in my small town the shop selling fabrics, threads, beads, felt, buttons etc is called 'Reticule'.

I see, very interesting sklo42! Thankyou very much for your coment. I wonder if the bag was called that because it was handcrafted or because a lady would keep her sewingthings in it? Thanks for loving this.

Thanks for the help with this post. I see I have fargotten to mark it as solved. This is indeed a reticule bag from around 1890-1910 or so. I have red some books on it as well lately. I'm moving towards collecting handbags and purses maybe...
