It's sounds crazy, but Sign Poles are actually getting harder to find than the Porcelain Signs. It is probably for a variety of pretty good reasons, namely because farmers found a good use for signs to patch roof leaks and plug holes in fences etc, etc. while scrappers found a ready market for the scrap steel from the sign poles and they were commonly cut down & melted. The War effort of the 40s took most of the unused old poles and the overseas demand by China's Industrialization and the high price of scrap took most of what was left just a very few years ago. It is amazing how the scrappers cleaned up all the old cool stuff I used to love seeing in the farmers fields & bone yards. No more old trucks off in the distance, or old tractors and impliments from the turn of the last century. We have known about these old poles that were owned by an old business for a very long time and the owner is a pretty grumpy old guys who's gruff personality has scared most, would be buyers, off in the first few minutes of conversation for decades. In our case we have learned to like gruff old guys over the years & probably fit the definition ourselves? In any event, after many many friendly conversations and visits, the owner finally figured out that he would never actually use the 5 Property Line poles in the stack and could also see that we are making great use of the poles by standing original signs back on them & loves the work we are doing at aaaLakeside Storage so acquiesced even on a straight couple of poles. This is a very cool stack of poles that we hope to soon display some cool old signs on as we look for more big porcelain signs to fill the rest of them. Keep on hunting as the thrill is in the hunt! The work begins when you find and buy them!

The pole on top with the strange dog leg shape appears to actually be two old Texaco signs that were cut up by a fabricator and made in to a much taller sign with the weird shape to clear a sidewalk or some other area. We love it and actually have another similar sign we bought last year from a sign collector down South of here. We just love the hunt & especially when we find cool stuff like this!
