    Hi,
    I am back with some model numbers and I hope they will help me to identify this machine. It was in my grandmother's house and she used to be a very talented fashion stylist in her town in Brazil in the 20's until the 60's.
    It is:
    * Singer
    * appears to be a pleating machine
    * pre-electric
    * very heavy
    I have found some numbers . One of them is 49K7 (or L) and the last one seems to be Y3775250. I hope that can help.

    Thank you so much again for your time a attention

      You need to find the data plate with the model number. Or some numbers to identify the machine. Singer marked their machines well.

      49K1 - it is indeed a pleating or kilting machine, for pleating fabric. Part of this batch Y- 3775061 - 3775310, model 49K, batch of 250, commissioned December 16 1925

      Thank you so much Bernadette. I really appreciated your expertise. Do you know where this machine was made? I wonder how my grandmother would be able to get one in a small town in Brazil. I am really happy to know a bit more about it. Thank you very much, again.

      The K and the serial number show that it was made at the Kilbowie factory near Glasgow in Scotland.
    5. Bernadette Bernadette, 9 years ago
      The Kilbowie factory was one of the biggest in the world and exported machines via their sales net work of dealers and agents
      all over the world.

      According to this history, Singer had an agency in Brazil as early as 1858 http://www.singerco.com/company/history+

      Hi Kayak,
      No, I live in the USA but my family is spreaded all over Brazil. This specific machine is in Minas Gerais State, where my grandmother used to live. It is in perfect vintage condition and really looks beautiful. It works.
