      I think it is a British Registry symbol from 1868-1883? but cannot make out maker...Thanks!

      You may try a rubbing of the mark by putting a thin paper on it and rub a pencil to make it appear on the paper.
      Could the writing say BERNARDAUD?

      I think I found it! Brownfield! 1858...impressed name. Found a plate with the exact same shape and beading, hand painted orchids in center, but with color. Thanks for all your help!

      would love to get the other ones! saw on replacements.com they have one other that is similar shape, and birds/orchids in center...such an unusual shape...oh well...

      so interesting....I think the designer is Dr. Christopher Dresser....the oriental influence, organic and geometric combo...
