I wanted to do something special w/these 3 wonderful .75" black and pale pink carved bakelite ball buttons. Dug around (ha!) my stash of black beads and found these 1" wavy German Lucite beads and some new Czech faceted glass barrel beads.

Strung it all together in a easier length than the traditional 16" 30's plastic necklaces. This is 18". Always gets compliments and to me is the best use of these buttons. I think this particular process is called overdyed and then carved to show both colors.

Hope you enjoy and it's okay to just like it since I know most people are not as nuts about plastic as I am.

P.S - Watched the 1984 series "Jewel In the Crown" which spans 1942-47 and is good to watch for period clothes and jewelry. Some bakelite to enjoy. The clothes, sets, LOCATIONS and cars are really great though.

Thanks Rick - the joke here is that I have 3 shoeboxes of random cool old black beads and buttons waiting to get out of the box! Tip: nice beads should be put in plastic bags so they don't scrape against the others. My new black beads are in different containers - so yes, I probably looked thru 5 to marry these together. A very fun project by the way, not complaining.

Thanks AGH and mike for the love!

Thanks Ivonne - when I make jewelry from old parts I try to make them look original to their time. I have some great research books to help me. My background is graphic arts, fashion design & mfg. and writing about fashion and home decorating. That's another reason I love CW - we share the passion for past time things and lifestyle.

Kyra thanks - I know you get this marriage. I don't want old pieces to sit unloved if there is something I can do about it. The buttons were special. I wanted to use them for a 1940's jacket but it never happened.
