Indian Blanket
8 + 1/2 inches X 24 inches tassel to tassel
Has been hanging on my wall 20++ years , Think I bought it at a yard sale, just curious.
Trying to determine if this IS a Navajo blanket - my understanding is that's determined by how the blanket is weaved / at the ends ?? Is that the proper way to determine? Can you tell by my pictures ? If needed I can take better pictures.

This is not Indian, it is a Chimayo weaving, and is Hispanic. The name comes from the village of Chimayo, in northern New Mexico, which was settled in the 1600's by the Spanish, who brought their European looms and Spanish weaving traditions with them. The area became a center of weaving arts in the New World. Many of the weavers trace their heritage back eight or more generations to the early Spanish settlers. Their weaving is considered part of the Spanish Colonial Art heritage of northern New Mexico.
Navajo weavings are identified by the unique way they are woven, rather than by their design. Unlike the rest of the world, the Navajo use an upright loom, with a continuous warp, which results in a weaving with yarn loops in the corners, rather than fringes on the ends. It is impossible to weave a textile with fringe on both ends on a Navajo loom. (Also, the Navajo haven't woven blankets since the 1880's, when they switched to making rugs exclusively.)
Thanks for your knowledge Canyonroad , is there any way to date the mini blanket I have? I was gonna guess if not Navajo maybe Mexican + I had my smartass answer all ready. "Well I like Mexico that is where Tequila comes from"
