In my previous post, I said I'm begining to collect silver compacts and cigarette cases, this is one.
This is a Silver gilt and enamel compact. The seller thought it could be either French or Italian, I'm inclined to think Italian. I believe it was made between 1930-40 but I'm not certain. It is in very good condition and the enamel work is almost perfect. It is of an idyllic country Scene of a shepherdess and her sheep, with a surround of cobalt blue and green enamelling with swirled engraving in silver gilt. The back is engraved with swirls of leaves and flowers.
Inside there is an 800 hallmark and a makers mark which is very worn. The mirror appears to be original and is surrounded by an engraved silver gilt frame.
The compact measures 8.5 cm x 7cm x 0.8 cm.
Many thanks for looking.
