Brimfield Flea market yesterday was as always a fun time - so many characters and tons, and tons of stuff. I almost scored a 3/4 Oak Slat Excelsior stamped trunk - but the person who bought it from my friend the picker (aka trunk man from CT) wasn't interested in selling - so close but yet so far - but it saved me bundles. So because I couldn't go home empty handed, I found this lovely super sturdy and heavy trunk. I loved the edging. If my fellow trunkers have more info on this beauty, feel free to share - do I have the dates right?

Nice Zinc covered trunk. Probably pure Zinc (you can check with a magnet) I would put it closer to the mid 1870's, but a picture of the inside (if there is anything left inside) would also help. While many makers were using the 1870 Hillebrand lid stay, and cast iron latches in the early 1870's, my 1875 Montgomery wards catalog shows all of the trunks with cloth stays and strap and buckle set-ups.

I love these zinc trunks.... I used fine steel wool to clean mine up... I also used a lemon on it with the steel wool and it really cleaned it up... the blue hue to the zinc looks fabulous... we actually redid our kitchen using accent colours from the trunk. You can check out the pic on my site to see the look it created....
      Great find!!
