This crazy contraption I have has got all my neighbors stumped on what it is

Okay so I got this at an estate sale and I have no idea what it is. If anyone has any idea please let me know. It is cast iron with a flat shaft that is spring loaded not sure what it is used for.

Sorry, I haven't a clue right now - leave it posted in case I come across it in future research. - Too bad there's no patent # or forge mark, that always helps.

Yes I looked all over for some kind of a marking but nothing, but I'm still looking on the web hoping I can find it.

I looked for this tool until I began to cover the same ground over again. Now all roads leave me to believe that this tool was/is a in house, or home made "Dzus" Fastenter proto-type tool. Dzus fasteners were developed in the 1930's for holding Aircraft panels in place, but were used on race cars as well. I say all of this because of the Tip design, or bit spoon design, and the pre-load spring, which I think was to keep pressure on the fastener, so it would not jump out of the fastener slot. I also says these things because it has absolutly no marks on it, such as trademark, country of origin, nothing. This is just my best guess, but it is all I can figure.

OK, I found your Tool! You have a Spring Loaded, "Ice Chipper", as show in the links I have provided you below:

Thanks kyratango! I don't expect to hear anything from the original poster, so your Bravo means allot to me. Take Care!

      Glad, you appreciate my BRAVOOO!
It is always frustrating when you solve a mystery, and the poster even don't care, lol!

Thank You "oldandsilly", and I also have no idea, other than the explanation given at the top of the page, on one of the links I posted. But, after searching for it as long as I did, I can see why it did not cut thr mustard design wise, and was most likely D.O.A., when introduced in the late 1800's, or early 1900's.

Okay Frisco I do appreciate all your hard work that you put into figurine out what this was and yes I am the original person that posted it but unfortunately I'm not always able to get on here but when I do I always get back to the people that leave a comment. Now that we have that out and over with I've got to figure out when it was made.
