I found this sitting on the shelf with the VCR's and electronics at Goodwill this afternoon. If you hold it up to the window in a dark room and let light shine through it it's a plain dull green with grey swirls. Take it into a bright room and it lights up with a rainbow of iridescent colors. At a tad over 6 inches tall, it's a very unassuming architectural tapered square. The sides are a bit concaved and not perfectly flat with beveled corners. No marks or labels and it was really dirty inside. I washed it out just to make sure I wasn't missing anything. A simple art nouveau form and quite pretty. -Mike-

Note : Thanks so much welzebub for pointing me in the right direction. No doubt...... it's a Kralik piece for a mere ninety-nine cents !

Thank you welzebub :).... I knew it looked familiar, but I'm not familiar enough with this type of glass to know if it was real or not. The vases were on the next shelf over. Someone was just too lazy to put it back where it belonged I guess.

Found it on liveauctioneer's site from a 2008 auction in Germany. Unfortunately I don't read German. I get the gist of it though :)..Score

Thanks yesterdaysglass :)..... @Ken. Well I guess I'll just leave it on my desk and stare at it for a while. It's my first piece of art nouveau glass and a rarity to find something like this just sitting on the shelf at a Goodwill store..... :)

      Great find Mike!
I would do as you say - sit it on your desk and admire it - and possibly even gloat.

Thanks Karen :).... It was so unexpected and in a place I never would have dreamed to find something like this.

      fabulous story Mike.
This is an area that I want to improve in my collecting, purest art nouveau! And you have done just that!!!
      Well done...

Thank you Kerry and Anne for the "loves" and comments :).... I've been trying to find glass like this forever. They usually wind up in the showcase priced at full retail or badly damaged in some way through careless handling. I feel very fortunate indeed !

Found one on Ebay as well and it has a small filigree gilt mount on the base. Not sure if that was optional or originally made that way. Interesting and disappointing at the same time that mine it's missing.

Thanks Ken :).... It was the little GW in Oberlin staffed by a mostly younger crowd. Had it been in the Cleveland area it would have been in the showcase for mega bucks.
    15. sklo42 sklo42, 9 years ago
Well I'm glad it went to you.....if you shop in GW regularly they're already benefiting from your custom.... and everyone should get lucky now and again!
    16. mikelv85 mikelv85, 9 years ago
Thanks sklo42 ...... I actually went there to check out the LP's since they do carry a lot compared to the other GW's. and then I wind up with this old thing....lol, but seriously I was amazed.

Like sklo42, I am so happy for you mike, you shop so much,
when it show up, you where to one choose to get it.
I was not sure. When I see the post, because I just start myself to get more knowledge on glass, but not comfortable to say Kralik.
      Congrats again friend.

Thanks so much Alan for the nice comment. I was fairly sure what it was when I saw it but not sure of it's authenticity. So I was deliberately vague at first. I thought maybe Chinese copy but to find the exact same vase more than a couple of times online pretty much confirmed it. If it wasn't for welezbub comment it probably would have taken me a lot longer to research it. Kralik was my first impression but like you said this is not my comfort zone as I'm still learning too. -Mike-

Really -- For .99 cents, OMFG. Bingo MIKE -- So glad you found it. I do not know how I missed this score!!!
    22. mikelv85 mikelv85, 8 years ago
Yep...Oberlin Goodwill Rose. Wasn't even with the glassware. It was on the electronics shelf. Someone must have put it back and too lazy to return it to the proper shelf. I wasn't 100% sure what it was but for a few cents what the heck. Now I'm real sure and it will never happen again....lol

Thanks Rose...it sits inside my clear Panthères De Cartier vase which oddly enough is the same shape. Makes a great display case for this little treasure...lol.
