I recently purchased this late 19th century cabinet card.
It was advertised as a phonograph horn, but I don't believe that is accurate.
It appears to be sitting on a small table or stand, so the size looks to be too small and the interior looks odd for a phonograph horn.
The single bend at the end is more indicative of an ear trumpet (amplifies sounds for those with hearing loss); however, the interior wire/ mesh portion looks more like it is some sort of filter or funnel.
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.
The photograph is typical of the 1890s and was photographed by "Garrison Brothers" of Rifle, Colorado.
A wine decanting funnel ???
It is odd isn't it?! I wonder what the added tube things on the funnel end are for?
Aerating more if it is a wine funnel?

I thinks it's all about aeration, filtration and direction. I'd always thought there was a link in design terms between ear trumpets and wine funnels ..... seriously!!!!

I was not familiar with wine decanting funnels, so I had to look it up!
Most that I found have a much more finished look to them-- as do most of the ear trumpets.
A Rifle Colorado photographer would seem odd to me for a wine apparatus.

What throws me off are the small tubes attached to the inside of the horn /funnel. Why would they alternate so that the tapered end points up on one and then down for the next and so on.........? Almost like several lines fed into the funnel inserted through the tubes ?? Cool picture ! Definetly distillery looking.
