    (103 items)

More demantoid garnet pieces. See also Part 1 in a separate post.

    - Suffragette ring: A fine gold ring, circa 1910, set with a central faceted amethyst surrounded by demantoid garnets and diamonds, in the symbolic colors of the Suffragette movement - green for hope, white for purity and purple for regal dignity. The quality of this ring suggests it was made for a wealthy supporter of the movement.

    - Suffragette style pendant - pearls, amethyst, demantoid garnets - circa 1910

    - Demantoid garnet pendant in rose gold w/ Russian marks

    - Opal and demantoid garnet pendant circa 1880

OMG - Demantoids are something I've looked for ever since I got interested in jewellery, but they're hardly ever seen in NZ, and I've never got a single piece.

What a fabulous collection you have here. I don't know which one I like the best.

Is the loose demantoid in Part 1 an old Russian stone?
    3. Bluboi Bluboi, 9 years ago
Hi Paul -- it is Russian, as it has a beautiful horsetail. Its AGL report states Russian (Ural Mountains), but doesn't specify age. Finding "great" true green ones is hard -- often they are very yellow or grayish.

Kyra -- I love the opal and demantoid combination also. All of the 1st pieces I found were with pearls, so this one is unusual.

      Thanks everyone for your loves!

Love it before I read what was written I was wondering if it was the suffragette colours as I like to test myself & was really pleased to see I was correct so I must be learning something so thanks all for the teaching. All four pieces are stunning

Hi Zowie -- good going! It is hard to confirm Suffrage provenance, so normally I will call things "in the style of" or some such language. These colors (colours) were in style during this time period, so much of the claimed "Suffrage" jewelry was just fashion jewelry. The Suffrage movements (US and UK) sold loads of buttons and badges to garner funds for their cause (and most of these little celluloid pins go for hundreds-to-thousands of dollars these days!). There were specific brooches given out to those imprisoned, who were force-fed, or (in the US) walked a picket line at the White House. These brooches are extremely rare, with only a few hundred in total.

And, of course, there are fake items. A number of jewelry items claimed to be Suffrage jewelry have been sold on eBay over the past several months. If any readers on CW are thinking about acquiring Suffrage items, Ken Florey has a great web site at: http://womansuffragememorabilia.com as well as a very good book.

Very nice! I have to stick with my first thought...same as kyra's! I do love the uniqueness of #3 also but the greens in #4 are just screaming!
