    Manikin
    (50 items)

Hi To All The good Folks on CW thought it was time to post something .
1940s Peggy McCall mannequin made by Dritz-Traum Company . She is 12 1/2 inches tall . Dressed in rare factory Patriotic flag dress '
Peggy always came boxed in a patriotic theme box with stars and stripes . During WWII these little mannequins were used to teach young girls to sew . I have had several but never one dressed by factory in this dress they were usually nude .
They came with McCall patterns which always included a nurse uniform . A Hint to become a Nurse ? They used small scraps of material to make clothes as material was hard to come by during WWII and also some sewing notions in box .
. I had one of these manequins that came with original insert saying " Help Your Country and learn to sew for War effort . Added the front of one of her boxes showing her draped in red, white and blue
I hope you enjoy her history .

    19. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 4 years ago
Actually, it's breaking a federal law against using the flag design on clothing.
    20. Manikin Manikin, 4 years ago
bb2 I guess she will have to go to jail . Interesting but then this was done during War so maybe not illegal then ? She is rare to have factory made flag dress so maybe they stopped producing her after a short run because of the law ?
    21. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 4 years ago
That law goes w-a-y back as I recall. They just didn't enforce it during the protests & I see it on tourists clothes all the time. Probably one of those thousands of laws that are on your books to give cause if they want to arrest you but don't have anything else.
    22. Manikin Manikin, 4 years ago
I am sure they did not cut up a real flag or it would have been very tiny , That is something I did not know bb2 but then I never wore a flag like her dress which shows a bit much skin :-)

No jail bb2 ? what do they do just hang you ?
    31. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 4 years ago
Buy you a Heineken & tell you to be a good boy. They do have a jail/prison here on top of a peak with a great view. Don't guess the inmates get to enjoy the view though.

To be honest I have never seen one like it before. We didn't have them in Australia to my knowledge for sewing anyway. It's a good idea & wonderful to have this memento of times past when things were easier & we just didn't realise it. Have a great day

Such a great example Manikin... those pattern packages bring back a lot of memories...
    35. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 4 years ago
Mani, be sure to tell us what it's like to be water-boarded in Get-mo! LMFAO!! I probably shouldn't be telling this for fear of damaging my reputation. LOL!! In the 70's & 80's, the Jamaican Coast Guard would take loads of ganja to the guys in Get-mo. I had a woman working for me who had a PX card & she would go with them & use what they collected & our money to raid the PX. She told me more that once after a trip, that they just about emptied the PX! Laughing while we waved at her on the deck of the cutter & hard to spot her among the piles of boxes when they returned! Cuba doesn't allow growing ganja & those U.S. troops were a good market. I've forgotten more than most people remember & if I die tomorrow, I can't complain! Told my friends & family that when I die, just put a simple marker that reads: "Others dreamed. He did it!". LOL!!!
