Found a group of Kachina Dolls at a local shop. The photo taken is inside the shop. I purchased all but the one on the left in the last photo. There are initials "W. H." under the base. The only carver that I can find with those initials is a Walter Howato. The collection belonged to an elderly man who collected these for several years. I know nothing about them and I am hoping that someone can help.

LOl, love it! Just a teeny weeny bit afraid it will show up under my bed tonight though. May just have to tuck myself in really tight so it doesn't get me.

MeliG, I am a little afraid to...brings back memories of the old horror film "Trilogy Of Terror" with Karen Black.

racer, I will return as the weather gets colder. I do not do much on the computer in the summer but I do miss everyone.

What I know about these dolls is that the young Navajo boy that came to live with us for a couple of years to get a better education than he could get on the reservation was scared to death of Kachina dolls and would hardly even talk about them with our boys that were his same age. It was a very long time ago but I'll never forget his expressions when he spoke about them. They were powerful medicine to him and it was all bad medicine! I'd be careful with that little mini medicine man around the house. I can assure you that Gilbert, our Navajo boy, would not enter the house with that doll in it. Good luck!

Rattletrap, Thank you! I loved the story and thank you for sharing! I think that we need something like this to keep children in line. I read that the young Indian children were afraid of the kachina. I personally think that they are very cool. I may go back and bring home another one!

      Hi
I am new here and I love your collection I collect gothic and voodoo amongst other things. But I look for authentic. I actually scored a very tall totem pole a few weeks ago
I am in Australia but have managed to pick up a few N/A things here but of course my gothic items come from mostly Africa.

biofrances, Thank you for your kind comment. I love stuff like this, but I do not see much of it around here. I love it because it is different and very interesting.
