Here is another piece of trench art from my collection. It is made out of a central bullet and coins for the wings, wheels, and tail. The wings are 10 pfenning coins and the tail and wheels are 5 pfenning coins-- all 1915 or earlier dates. The plane measures 3 1/2" nose to tail and has a 3 3/4" wingspan. I believe the model depicts a German Fokker Eindecker monoplane. The Fokker Eindecker was the first aircraft fitted with a synchronized machine gun. This allowed the pilot to "point" at the enemy with the aircraft and bullets were safely sychronized with the propeller to prevent damage. This type of aircraft led to German air superiority from the middle of 1915 to the middle of 1916.

The use of actual coins from the right time and place really puts this one over the top for me. you have an impressive collection. I always admire trench art but rarely buy it since I already have my collecting fingers in too many pies.

Thanks for looking official. Trench art planes are probably my favorite form. I have about 50 different examples. This is one of the more unusual styles.
