I recently acquired this trunk from my 91 year old friend! She travelled with it when she was young and lived in India and Hong Kong so it could be possible that it was purchased there.
Can anyone help me to identify what it is made from- it looks like alligator skin to me but I'm not sure.
I cannot find a makers name. It has a lift out lined tray which sit on four steel corners. The key has Corbin marked on it with TTF 3 on the reverse.
As you can see there is quite a lot of damage to the leather. Should I repair/dye this or would it de value it?
Any help or advice would be kindly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Your trunk, or suitcase, was probably made around 1910 to 1920, and it is American made. It has leather bound edges and leather reinforced corners. The "alligator" is either embossed leather or embossed fiber to make it look like alligator. The hardware looks like a combination of solid Brass, and Brass plated steel (corrosion on dowel guides) It is not a particularly high dollar item, so I would do to it whatever makes you happy, and that includes leaving it as-is. Hope this helps, and much more information can be found at hmsantiquetrunks.com
