During my London visit, I spent time with Jan van den Bosch at his delightful shop in Gray's Antiques. Not only does he have a splendid selection of jewelry (some glorious Jugendstil plique a jour, including this 13 cm grasshopper: http://www.vandenbosch.co.uk/Jewellery/Jeng/JenHTML/t1.htm
but he has wonderful, rare sterling objects.
After much to-ing and fro-ing, I bought some necklaces of which this is one of them. Jan attributes this lovely silver A&C necklace to The Guild of Handicraft Ltd.
The double length chain has alternating enamel panels and collet set turquoise stones with a larger enamel to the center. Each blue/green enamel of a butterfly is backed with sparkling silver foil. English. Circa 1900. Size: Total length approximately 43 cm. Height of center pendant with drop 4.8 cm. Size of central enamel 2.6 cm. x 2.6 cm.
