I was thrilled to find this mottled green plastic (not bakelite) tackle box: 12"x5"x5". Marked "Beachcomber" on the black handle. It is from the 1950's and was manufactured by Plano Molding, Co, (Plano, Illinois). Love the colors and the grey levered tray inside. It was used and definitely needs a good thorough cleaning before I put my other plastic jewels inside. I found this at a junk store in Jackson, CA (in Northern mining country: not on fire thankfully) a few months ago - priced right - in fact less than similar ones on ebay.

Fort Apache - I am sure you have a few of these too. Hope you all enjoy this funky item. My favorite color! and, appeals to my "gotta have it because it's pretty AND functional".

Yes I do love it. Looks like my swirly graniteware stuff. I have one old tackle box but it is wood. use it for my action figure accessories.

Now that is a wild tackle box! With a name like Beachcomber, maybe was meant more for shell collecting? Great box. :)

Thanks Karen for your approval that it will no longer be a fish or shell tackle box after the clean up job. No, only dirt and rust - no fishy remains.

Thanks Fort - I knew your would love it. I have a texasware mixing bowl - splatter? granite? That plastic is a little thicker in the melmac or melamine style. This tackle box is thinner and over the years probably cracked easily -which didn't happen to this beauty. I love old wood toolboxes, and cigar boxes and of course old plastic boxes. Thanks for enjoying.

Thank you Katherine - yes shells sound about right! I see these from time to time online, but the shipping is usually too high so it was really fun (not a blessing :-) to find this one.
