Posting this to show what I've been doing this year on my meager bakelite budget. I've been buying bits and pieces and throwing them in a few boxes, usually colorized so I can do projects fast.

Newtimes - I loved these 2 single earrings. Black/white overdyed and carved green - but I had them for years, never found their mate. The adjustable base metal ring blanks were from a company called Blue Moon beads. Sadly they were discontinued and I bought the last 2 at the store. They are so perfect - plain with a wide comfortable shank, exact size for these .75" or 2.5 cm bakelite carrings.

Yes, I love old dice and have a stash of red, green, yellow....where are they by the way? hmm...:-) Anyway. I'm not that thrilled w/this upcycle, but maybe w/other green and brown....I'll like it better. It is a .5" brown bakelite bangle w/1/8" groove along center that probably held a band of silver aluminum or chrome - missing so this was a cheap bakelite bangle. I knew I was going to attach something...buttons or dice. Used tiny eyepins drilled to both. (For bakelite purists out there I have MORE wonderful old green dice.)

I enjoy giving my plastic bits a new life and since I only have 3 birds and a distant boyfriend some extra time on my hands.....

Mary, putting the dice on is such a cool idea! I wish I has saved my old dice:(

Love the bracelet and the rings! My projects drawer looks like a garbage tray for now ;-)

Gudrun - I knew green would look great w/the brown. If I find more of the old green smaller 5/16" dice I'll probably replace these. I love these big dice but the balance isn't right. I love recycling and upcycling (ha, ha buzz words!) And, still a lot of old dice out there to find.

Rick - thank you - I try to make my redos look as original as possible.

Hi Newtimes and thanks for your nice comments. Well, I did not show you my projects drawers, just this one box that happens to be fairly organized. Keep your eye out for the ring blanks for your single earrings. I think there are also some bracelet w/round blanks to glue these onto. Looks best when they fit right in and not just glued on top of a smaller blank.

What a great idea! You did an excellent job too. Very creative and cute ;)

Share thanks, I enjoy doing this! Since they're just for me I don't worry too much but I don't take apart perfect vintage items either. Nice to hear from you again- did you see the eclipse and orange moon? We sat out on the stone jetty (LB!!! no body in the rocks) and watched it for awhile. Neat!

      Perfect Valentinisation ;-)
Dices and project box have very appealing colors!

You are so creative! I found a Bakelite necklace with leaves and balls that looked like cherries on a colorful covered wire for $5. It was damaged. One of my daughters convinced me not to buy it because of the damage. I could have changed it into a bracelet. I could kick myself now because I saw one on line for a lot of money:(

I did see it! I was in Oceanside. Couldn't have had a better view, so awesome!

Thanks Kyra - Valentinisation! It doesn't quite roll off the tongue does it? Anyway, thanks for enjoying my plastic colors.

Thanks Gudrun - oh yeah! it would have made a really good bracelet. Well, that's what CW is for: sharing and learning. The cherry bakelite items are always a lot of money.

I have to tell you what I saw while in Oceanside the other day...Jacks! Okay, what I thought were a set of jacks, but no, it was a necklace made from the old jacks with the ball. Of course it made me think of you and this adorable bracelet!
    21. valentino97 valentino97, 6 years ago
Thanks Share - and back to Oceanside such a beautiful place to watch the eclipse and orange moon! Hope you had a fun visit. Jacks and ball necklace - neat idea! I would have remade to a bracelet because I don't like anything poking my neck, but wrist - okay go for it!

No kidding! I couldn't believe the price she wanted!!! I love thrifting down there, most places are really good! It's a great artsy community, I'll post a couple things I got last trip. I'd rather just move there ;)
    23. valentino97 valentino97, 6 years ago
Share please do share!! Ha, ha - I lived in San Diego for years and loved thrifting all over. Found so many good things - and some up in Oceanside too. Is the large DAV or Amvets?? still in Oceanside on 101, south of downtown? I always found something there.
