This watch was made by the Hampden Watch Co. that started in 1877 in Springfield, Massachusetts and after being purchased by John C. Dueber, a watch case manufacture, in 1888 he moved the company to Canton, Ohio and continued in business until 1930.
This watch movement, that is marked, Hampden Watch Co. Springfield, Mass. with serial number 445533 was manufactured in 1887 before being moved to Canton, Ohio.
It is an 18 size, full plate, gilt finish, 11 jewels, stem wind & lever set movement.
The painted dial, with a civil war calvary soldier and his mount, is signed Hampden Watch Co. across the top of the saddle & across the soldiers shoulder (very hard to see).
The movement is in an open face, silverode case made by the Philadelphia Watch Case Co. with the back cover engraved with a soldier mounted on his horse.
This is a nice dial commemorating the Civil War, that ended approximately 22 years earlier.
