    Hello to All,

I am new to antique doll collecting, which I absolutely LOVE! I have a new doll that I found at an estate sale and I am having trouble identifying her maker.
I know she is a German "Dolly faced doll" but her only markings are the word "Special" under her neck.
She is 16 inches tall, has sleepy eyes, a kid leather body, brushed eyebrows and an open mouth showing 5 rounded teeth.
I am not sure if her dress is original, but it is lovely and fits her perfectly!
She has bloomers, thigh high stockings, and a 2 piece dress, slip and smock with black leather boots.
She also is wearing a pearl brooch.

My question is who her maker was and her date of manufacture.
If possible her worth as well, since I am still learning... :)

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Kindly,
    Amy

There is several doll companies in Germany that the Special mark has been attributed to but no one really is certain on maker . She is a Shoulder head on kid body where some dolls marked Special are socket head and on a fully jointed composition body and some of those are stamped by companies . Which says heads may have been sold to numerous companies that used their own bodies , She dates around 1900-20's . Her value is not high if no damage to bisque around $50- 100 dollars . She has a replaced wig which decreases her value and clothes are not original or true to date of doll . Cute for display though .

I went high on 100 and that is unlikely . These dolls have decreased in value and people want original hair, clothes and prefer the jointed composition body to pose doll. She is a nice starter doll. A word of advice if you want to be a serious doll collector don't go for quantity but rather quality buy one very good one in place of 5 common :-) Unless you just want to enjoy them and not resale .
