Over the years there have been a lot Cicada brooches went through my hands made of different materials. But seldom I've seen such big beautiful Silver "flying" one.
The cicada is an ancient polyvalent symbol: resounding themes are resurrection, immortality, spiritual realization and spiritual ecstasy. For the ancient Greeks and Romans they sang in intoxicated ecstasy and were sacred to Apollo and cognate with the dionysiac bacchae and maenad.
This French jewelry is marked with the French mark: Tête de sanglier Paris 1838 à 1962

My daughter has always "Been into" bugs. Dragonflies mostly , because of the life cycle. I bet she would love this.
