This brooch is unmarked but I am fairly certain that it is sterling. It was really, really dirty and had a lot of patina, making it look really bad. I am still not completely done cleaning it but I am getting there.

    Thanks for looking:)

Much of the filigree jewelry is 800, 835 or 900 silver. I have a number of pieces, including an Indonesian marriage ceremony set, which is 900 silver.

I think you are correct. I have some pieces that I know are silver but they just look a bit different in "Colour." This one really could be silver but a lower grade. So, maybe not sterling but hopefully still silver:) I hope this came out the right way; I am getting tired LOL

I'm sure it's silver. These pieces are normally made by hand, and it would not be worth it to use rubbish metal. I'm tired, too - it's 01:15 in the morning. I'm off to La La Land! Goodnight.

Silver is a soft metal, so it would actually take more work to make filigree out of base metal. So yes, Its probably silver :-)

Thanks again, Efesgirl. I hope you had a good night. Also many thanks for your comment, Newtimes. I have a few filigree piece that are unmarked and I always wondered if someone put so much work into a piece if it is not at least silver:)

A few days ago I was looking for a brooch to wear and I found this one in one of my boxes. Thinking that this one was perfect for my outfit. I had a look at it and to my great dismay I noticed it was bent a bit in the front. When I took another close look, I noticed that what I believed to be some damage was actually two little marks in the front of the brooch. The marks are very small but based on the shape (two little squares) I believe now that the brooch could have been made in Egypt and, for sure, is sterling:)

Love filigree, it looks so fine and dainty. All of these brooches are very pretty.

They're all lovely, but I absolutely adore the one in the first photo!
