This a such a heavy piece of glass, great for being a water pitcher as it won't fall over at all. My piece as started to turn purple, can anyone tell me why? It's not in direct sunlight or even hardly light at all unless I turn the light on in the china cabinet or in the dining room, otherwise dark.
much EAPG contain manganese in the glass formulas to get clarity in the glass. Exposure to UV light can tend to cause the glass to turn purple over time. This is why it's recommended to NOT display EAPG in direct sunlight for long periods; tho' exposure to artificial UV lighting also produces the same results of purpling. This is generally known as 'sun purpled' by EAPG collectors and considered damage.
I see so many pieces in the second hand stores that have a purple tint....
And now I know why...
