    Please don’t ask me why I got this item. Maybe because I felt bad to see it in a second hand store? If it could talk, I am sure it could tell some stories.

    To one person, I guess someone by the name of Connon, it must have been important enough to have the medallion changed into a pendant. Too bad the descendants didn’t cherish it enough to pass on to the next generation.

    Thanks for looking:)

      I always end up with these sentimental pieces too. I hate to see them scrapped, they are such a part of someone's history. Glad you were able to rescue it!

      Thanks a lot, themuse. I hope nobody will ever need to get these medallions. My understaning is that these were given to soldiers returing from the war. At least they made it back alive.

      WWI, from Canada. Archie was only 20 years old when he died. What a shame.I found this in connection with the number 259092. I wonder if this was him and "Archie" was a nickname.

      I think I found the owner of this medallion: http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/first-world-war/first-world-war-1914-1918-cef/Pages/image.aspx?Image=036045a&URLjpg=http%3a%2f%2fdata2.archives.ca%2fcef%2fren2%2f036045a.gif&;
      It is hard to read but on the frame of the medallion it says: I M CONNON GODERICH
      I read somewhere that the number on the medallion is the issue number of the medallion and not the soldier's ID.

      Great work freiheit-- that data base is great when used correctly.

      I have always wondered why there is not a similar National Archives database for our (US) WW1 soldiers. Maybe something that will come with the upcoming 100th Anniversary of US involvement in the War.

      Many thanks, SEAN68 and scottvez.
      Scottvez, I didn't know that this information was availabe for Canadian soldiers until I came across this medallion. I hope you are correct and this information will be made accessable for US WWI soldiers too.
