Hi all, my family has this great old, large, print of a picture taken in 1914 by H. F. Holmes in Syracuse, NY. It was left in the attic of an old home of ours when we moved in about 35 years ago, and we have displayed it prominently in our homes ever since. Sadly, we know nothing about it. I am hoping some aficionado of trains out there could tell me more. PS - I don't think I'm breaking the rules of the site, but if I am, I will remove the image ASAP. Just let me know!

      Looks like an actual photograph.

Trains are a popular collecting field within photographs. With photos bigger is better, but you are pushing the envelope with this one!

Research under the locomotive #3368 may yield more information. If you have the Railroad line this locomotive served under, searching should be easier.

Photographer location: "Syracuse, NY" may also aid in the search.

Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Looked at the blow up photo again-- not so sure it is "Syracuse, NY". Please correct me if I am wrong.

At any rate if it is a city or state, it should aid in the search.

Hi Scott!! Thanks for your feedback.

I don't really know where the picture was taken. Under the photographer's signature, he wrote Syracuse, NY, and the date. Not sure if that was his address or the location of the photograph. Probably his address.

Syracuse would be photographer's location, but it is a good bet that the train was photographed there or close by.

I'd start the search with Railroads that had a line in Syracuse and expand to NY State if you don't find it.

It is a 4-6-2 Pacific class locomotive. Can you read what the railroad name on the cars or the locomotive?
