I bought a complete 15 piece canister set which is apparently approximately 65 years old which includes the vinegar and oil jars and a salt box. It has no markings but I cannot match it to anything on the internet and the Majolica Style is the nearest I can get to. Probably what some would call kitch but I rather like it and would love to know a bit more about it if anybody knows.

    Thank you

What an absolutely fantastic set, and still complete!

I am no expert on this by any means but I lean toward Japanese. They made a lot of majolica style home wares mid century purely for the Western market. The birds and the flower and relief design look Asian to me as do the shape of the handles.

The other big contender would be Italy but the decor does not fit for me.

I'm with Karen ... I think it's Japanese too !!! Definitely tin glazed = majolica. I love Kitsch ... well not all of it .... LOL !!!

Thank you for the comments it was sold by the owner who inherited it as Chinese but knew it wasn't. I also thought produced for the Western Market. Wedgewood made some Majolica with the blue background and pink dog roses but no birds or cherry blossoms so maybe a bit of a take on that. Finding a complete set was awesome but I did think I might find a piece here or there that had survived with maybe a bit of information attached but I think I have exhausted most avenues. I agree certain kitch......... :-) But usually if something winks at me it is usually good kitch lol
