    Hi everyone,
A turned & carved wooden (needle?) case, only 3" long.
Possibly Black Forest, Victorian, it looks old.
I wondered if it once had a picture painted on it. If there was its long gone now but there's a carved frame shaped flat area on one side, with remains of colour on it.
I'd love to know if anyone's seen other examples, or anything more about it.

    Thank you.

Thank you for the loves and nice comments everyone. Jscotto I'd never come across them before but seen a few since, made from all sorts of materials, lovely small collectibles. I like this because it's carved wooden. I guess the main mystery is if it once had a picture. I think it probably did because of the 'frame' shape carved around the coloured area. It's hard to tell though. It could be just discoloured varnish.

The Voynich manuscript contains several drawings of containers that were apparently used to store and carry medicinal powders from the roots depicted beside the containers. I'd like if you got this dated by an expert just to see how old it is and to pinpoint the origin. Whether it goes all the way back to the time of the Voynich, which is approx. 1430, or is a simple etui used by a Victorian woman...what fun just to learn more about it. Hope you don't mind; I used some photos of it in my blog.
